Sunday Spotlight: April Andrews and Rescuing His Omega

Welcome April Andrews back to Sunday Spotlight.  She's sharing a bit from her new release -- Rescuing His Omega, the seventh book in the the Omega Auctions series.

If you’re born an omega, you don’t get to stay with your pack. Instead, you’re sent to the Omega Auctions, a place where wolves are traded between packs...a place where they have no say in their future…but a place where, at long last, some wolves are finally fighting back…

Broken and battered, Sebastian has been rescued from the Omega Auctions but he is haunted by his time there...and the time that he spent with the pack that auctioned him. Sebastian has no idea if he will ever heal from what had happened to him and no idea what path his life will take now.

Klaus is a member of the pack that rescued Sebastian—a pack of free wolves—and from the moment they meet he finds himself drawn to the other man. He soon realizes why. Sebastian is his given mate and that means that Klaus has no choice but to claim him.

Only, it won’t be that simple because Sebastian is far from ready for the love that Klaus is offering and he won’t ever be, not unless he confronts his demons. These two wolves will have no option but to go back to the place where Sebastian was shattered...and try their very best to put him back together again.

Klaus knew it was too soon, knew that he had to go slow, knew that he had to be careful, and yet, he couldn’t stop himself from reaching down and taking Sebastian’s hand in his once more.

The moment their skin touched…Klaus almost shuddered. He felt something that he had never felt before. There was something here. Something between them. Something they had both, whether they knew it or not, been waiting for.

Mates.

There was no other explanation.

And yet…the other man shot Klaus a look. It was filled with that same confusion but there was something else there too.

Fear.

It broke Klaus’ heart.

He knew then, and he knew it without a doubt, that his mate was damaged.

Broken.

He knew too that there was only ever going to be one way to put him back together.

Damned Good Food: No Knead Cheese and Garlic Flatbread Recipe

I've been really lax about sharing my cooking adventures as of late, so maybe this will make up for that.

I don't know that this bread is technically flat... it does use yeast, so there is a bit of a rise to it.  Maybe "Fluffy Flatbread" would be a better term.

I baked this to accompany a pot of homemade soup I made and OH MY GAWD was it delicious.

And what was even better, was that the leftover bread can be sliced and toasted for great day-old breadsticks. (Leftover bread? What's that??)

Now, I used the lesser of the garlic amounts and it was still pretty garlicky.  I love garlic, but someone in the house is less of a fan... and it was a bit too much for them.  If you're not a fan, you might want to use even less garlic.  I wouldn't go for 8 cloves unless you are a major garlic fiend...

No Knead Cheese and Garlic Flatbread

DOUGH

1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
3 tablespoons olive oil (plus additional for drizzling into the pan)
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
3 1/2 cups King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
1 tablespoon instant yeast
4 teaspoons Pizza Dough Flavor, optional

FILLING

2 cups diced cheese — cheddar, Monterey Jack, flavored cheddar, or your favorite
4 to 8 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped

Your favorite dried herbs, to sprinkle on top

Instructions

Lightly grease a 9" x 13" pan and drizzle 1 to 2 tablespoons olive oil along the bottom.

Combine all of the dough ingredients and beat at high speed w/an electric mixer for 60 seconds.

Add the cheese and garlic, beating gently just to blend.

Scoop the sticky batter into the prepared pan, cover the pan w/ a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise at room temperature for 60 minutes, till it's become fluffy.

Before the hour is up, preheat the oven to 375°F.

Sprinkle the top with the dried herbs of your choice, if desired.

Bake the bread till it's golden brown, 35 to 40 minutes.

Remove it from the oven, wait 5 minutes, then turn it out of the pan onto a rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.

To make crunchy bread sticks:

Cut day-old bread into 1/2" slices. Lay the slices on an ungreased baking sheet, and bake them in a preheated 350°F to 400°F oven (depending on how crunchy you'd like them) till they're a light golden brown and crunchy, 15 to 25 minutes or so; keep your eye on them, as they brown quickly towards the end.

Yield: about 12 to 18 servings bread; or about fifty 6 1/2" bread sticks.

Sunday Spotlight - Jayson Jax and Bred by the Cavemen

Welcome Jayson Jax back to Sunday Spotlight.  Jayson is sharing a bit from Bred by the Cavemen, the second Caveman Isle M-PREG novella.
Jaime Gallagher was nothing like the son his father wanted. The two had spent years at odds, but a chance desire to see his father’s pet project on the mysterious island Sir Ian Gallagher owned brought Jaime into the middle of chaos. Months before, the creatures Sir Ian had bred on the island had broken from their prisons and claimed the island for themselves.
Jaime is imprisoned, kept captive as the new leaders of the island decide his fate.  While awaiting their decision, he chooses to live out a fantasy—one where he would give himself to one of the cavemen on the island.
He hadn’t planned for one to become two. Na’ear and Tig’un seem to be a package deal, and Jaime won’t say no to double the loving.
When feelings emerge, and strings threaten to entangle his future, he’s rudderless in a sea of emotions. Will he escape Caveman Isle, or will he stay and face a future with two cavemen?

Jaime Gallagher scanned the BDSM club from his seat in the VIP section. The throb of the base pulsed like a raw nerve within his bodies as he watched the scantily clad men and women rubbing themselves against one another. The search was on… looking for another in a long series of hookups in the search for Mr. Right.
Mr. Right? Maybe that’s a bit too far…
The something special he kept searching for wasn’t there. Above him, on the second and third levels of the club, was where the real action was. He rose from the packed booth, lifting his glass of high dollar champagne in one hand, knowing full well if his father was going to ream him for his charges, he better damned sure enjoy them. Jaime strode through the throngs of dancers, wedging himself between grinding bodies as he moved.
He was groped a few times.  Luckily for the gropers, he didn’t mind that shit.
Too bad none of them had that spark in their eye that made him think they could follow up that first grope with the kind he really liked. After climbing the stairs to the second floor, he perused the play. There were several scenes happening at once, out in the open. Voyeurism was fun, but could only get him so far.
All the rules and the limits and the core of BDSM were there for a reason, and he completely understood and respected them… they kept everyone safe. But there were times when he just wanted some big, muscled man to force him to his knees and take. For there not to be a long conversation about boundaries and limits.  No contracts. No safewords.
The few times he’d thought he’d found partners who’d comply with his desires, they’d still held back. He could sense their hesitance as they seemed to watch him intently for cues and often read them wrong.
He paused at a scene where a male sub was being flogged by his master. The leather-clad men were well-built and hot as hell, but it still only kept his interest for a few moments. He walked on, passing a Domme and her female, two subs with their Dom, and then a pup and his owner. None grabbed him.
The next scene was a bit more intriguing.  A bit of costume play. A caveman and submissive cavewoman. His eyes widened as he watched them fucking, his thoughts drifting to the island.
His father’s island.
He hadn’t physically been in the man’s presence in nearly two years. Sir Ian was a lot to handle. Distance helped make civility possible.
The last time he’d seen his father had been at his father’s home in the Caribbean. Jaime drew in a deep breath, remembering the ghastly things he’d seen there. Yet, some of it had been tempting… in a way it shouldn’t have.
“Never imagined you liking a scene like this,” a voice whispered in his ear.
Jaime turned to see Drew Colesworth, one of his university pals.  He chuckled at the raised eyebrow the man had.  “I was lost in thought.”
Drew smiled, a hint of something in his eyes. He turned to see the caveman pumping deep into the woman. “I’ll never quite understand the allure.” Drew tilted his head some.
“Never been inside a woman?”
“Almost,” Drew admitted.  “I just couldn’t do it. Of course, I told all my friends that I had just to get them off my back and totally ruined the poor girl’s reputation.”
“Prat,” Jaime said.
“I ended up asking her to be my girlfriend for a few months when I went on vacation with my parents. They agreed to let her go simply because they were glad to think I wasn’t gay.  She ended up getting a European holiday out of it and didn’t have to fuck me.  I think she ended up getting repaid for her troubles.”
“A month or two with your parents?” Jaime asked, shaking his head.  “I think you owe her for that hell, too.”
“As if your parents are much better.”
“Mum is okay.  When she’s not drunk,” Jaime said.  “She’s off with her new boytoy in Greece or Turkey or somewhere.”
“Sir Ian?”
“He’s off in the Caribbean, working on his secret project.”
Drew lifted his brows.  “Secret project.  Oh, do tell.”
Jaime grasped Drew’s elbow and led his friend away from the scene and into a dark corner near the back stairs. “He made me sign an NDA.”
“A non-disclosure? He’s your father.”
Jaime met Drew’s stare.  “He’s a businessman who just so happened to breed with my mother.”
Drew laughed. “I always think my parents are bad until I start hearing about yours.”
Jaime’s gaze shifted back to the two cavepeople, an idea forming. “Those flying lessons you took… ever finish?”
“I’m a certified helicopter pilot,” Drew said with a smile.
“Ever been to the Caribbean?” Jaime asked.
“You do realize we can’t fly a helicopter from here to there,” Drew asked, suspiciously.
“My father has a company jet I can try to secure for the transatlantic flight. He also has a home near Miami that has a small private airport.  I can ensure there’s a helicopter there for our use.”
“You want to go see your father?”
“No,” Jaime answered.  “I want you to see what he’s got on that island.”
Drew grinned, his white teeth flashing in the dark.  “Ready whenever you are.”

Sunday Spotlight -- Victoria Vallo and Tangling with His Tiger

Welcome Victoria Vallo back to Sunday Spotlight!  She's here today to share a bit from her new Shifters of Arizia series with us.  The first book is Tangling with His Tiger.

Captain Byron Gregg sails into his home port with a bounty to collect on and a longing for someone new in his bed. When he notices a man watching him, he can’t help being intrigued. Yet once he’s collected his reward, Byron can’t find the man anywhere. He searches all over the village, delighted when he finally finds the man and manages to pull him into an alley—and into his arms.

The only problem is … he’s kissing the wrong man.

Byron senses the other man is also a shifter, and his inner bear wants nothing more than to claim him. Eric runs away, insisting he’s not interested in Byron. But the bear can’t get the scent or taste of Eric out of his system. He’s skilled at hunting down pirates, and now he’s setting out to hunt down his mate…

Eric sighed as he turned his collar up against the wind. The dark clouds moved in faster now, and he still had several errands to do for Vane Harold. The man had been kind and understanding when Eric’s twin brother Samuel had been caught shirking his duties, not to mention fucking the vane’s youngest daughter. Eric resented how Samuel had tarnished their family’s reputation as good clansmen, and he was determined to show Harold that he was a far better man than his lazy, conniving twin.

As he moved past the entrance to an alleyway, a strong hand reached out and grabbed him. Before Eric could even react, he found himself pushed face first up against the stone wall of the butcher’s shop, the muscular body of a large man holding him in place. He could feel the man’s large cock rubbing against his ass.

“I only have a little coin. I’m hardly worth fooling with,” Eric whispered, though he didn’t think he was about to be robbed. The man’s erection pressed against him even more, and Eric had to stop himself from pushing back and encouraging his attacker. He hadn’t felt a man’s touch in a long time, but a back alley fumble was hardly the way to scratch that itch.

“You know that isn’t what I want,” his assailant whispered, his tone surprisingly soothing and gentle. The man backed up enough to turn Eric around, but he still kept Eric pinned there against the stones. Eric drew in a breath as he stared at the handsome man. He’d intended to put his attacker at ease and then knee him in the crotch and make a run for it, but this man was no ordinary thug. He looked like a sailor, possibly one of rank. He wore fine leather boots and tight breeches that showed off the erection Eric had just felt pressed against him. His white shirt was clean, and his brocade waistcoat seemed to have been tailored specifically for him. His beard was well trimmed, and his long brown and gold hair was clean. And looked very touchable.

Eric licked his lips. He’d only slept with one man before, but he’d loved every moment of the rough, passionate fucking. “I think you’ll find a more suitable companion down by the docks,” Eric said. “This part of town is a bit more respectable.”

The man laughed. “Is it respectable to follow a man around with lust in your eyes and then vanish?”

Eric didn’t understand at all. Who was the man talking about? He’d been the one following Eric around, hadn’t he? And he certainly hadn’t vanished. Their bodies were pressed close now, and Eric worried his cock might start responding soon. He’d never be able to get away if the man felt him getting hard. Eric started to speak, but the man stopped him with a kiss. The embrace was slow but heated, and Eric felt as if he was being branded by the man’s mouth. No one had ever kissed him so deeply before.

The man broke the kiss and opened a few buttons on Eric’s shirt, his mouth and tongue exploring. “Smell so damn good. Taste even better.”

Eric gasped when the man’s teeth grazed his neck. But he didn’t resist, even though he could feel the heat creeping up his face. He’d never done anything like this out in the open, and the street would only get busier as people tried to get home and out of the coming rain.

New Boxset - Bear Mountain, Volume One

For those of you who haven't picked up my Bear Mountain series yet, my publisher just released the first four books in one boxset -- priced 35% lower than the titles individually!

The first four books of Kelex's bestselling Bear Mountain series in one e-book set:

Bound to Two Bears

Newly dumped Carson Davies decides the vacation he’d planned to take his girlfriend on—in hopes of fixing their troubled relationship—is the perfect getaway he needs to clear his head. A few days of solitude, hiking along picturesque Bear Mountain is just what he thinks he needs to move on. But as soon as he arrives, he’s shocked by the sensual reaction he has to the two owners. The two male owners. Carson has never been attracted to a man, and he fights the sensation tooth and nail.

Royce and Jared know their mate as soon as he walks in the door of the main lodge. They’re ready to claim what’s theirs, but know they need to be careful. The man sees himself as straight, but that’s the least of their problems. They’ll need to show him their true nature, their inner bear, and hope it doesn’t send the man packing.

The shifters have just three days before the human is scheduled to go home. In a short span, they’ve got to show Carson how bound they all are and hope they can seduce the man into surrendering.

Claimed by Two Bears

Raised by bear shifters, Paul has always felt out of place. As a human, he’s not allowed to play a role in the shifter community he’s been surrounded by his entire life. When his job at Bear Mountain is jeopardized, he considers leaving the only home he’s ever known to seek out the thing that’s always felt missing in his life.

Betas Brynn and Tomas awaited their human mate for many years. When an orphaned infant showed up on their doorstep, they knew the male would one day grow to be their mate. Ignoring their protective instincts, they left the valley and the male behind, knowing they couldn't be in his life or they’d threaten the future they'd one day have together.

When the two bears finally return to find Paul a man, they know it’s time to claim what they’ve always known was theirs.

An Omega for Two Bears

Asher McCreary not only has a terrible family name, but he’s an omega as well. After years of abuse by his wild family, he’s finally broken into too many pieces by a would-be pair of murderers. As he lays in his hospital bed, he finds champions in Graham and Airan, the Bear Mountain sheriff and doctor, both adamant they’ll protect him from the ones who fractured him.

Graham found the omega bear battered and left for dead in the woods of Bear Mountain. Unable to ignore the mating scent, he’s shocked to learn he and Airan are bound to another bear, not the human they’d expected.

Overcoming their odd match will be the least of their worries when Asher’s attacker comes after the trio full force, ready to destroy as many bears that get in his way to the head of the council table.

Promised to Two Bears

Bear lays with human, not bear.

Or so the old bear law has always said. It was beaten into Declan and his brother bear, Ryder’s heads since they were small, just like every other cub in school. Yet when they find their mate, an omega, sneaking a dip in the mountain’s spring, Declan can’t ignore the need he feels, bear or not.

Ryder feels the same lusts, but he’s much more concerned about an omega being their mate. He knows claiming another bear could get them exiled. He stops Declan before things go too far, but even that isn’t enough to stop them from being sent off bear lands.

Gage knows his mates when he sees them, but also knows they can never be together. As an omega, he’s the lowest chaste in the bear world, an invisible slave to those above him. The fantasy is too scary to imagine, no matter how much his body yearns to be claimed by the two handsome males. It’ll take the bear world to be flipped upside down for the three of them to find a way to be together.
